All In One Printers
All in one printers seek to do as many things as possible. They are the Swiss army knife of the computing world. They have a “standard” set of functions. These functions include: a scanner, a fax machine, a copier, and of course, a printer. Since they include a fax machine, many also include a phone as well.
The reason all in one printers are popular stems from the computing limitations that were around during their inception. You see, printers utilized what’s known as a parallel port. There was often only one of these ports on a computer, much like there was only on monitor hookup, one power supply, and so on.
This wasn’t originally an issue, but later on other products were developed that also utilized a parallel port. If you guessed that the products using the port are the same products found on all in one printers, give yourself a gold star. Pretty much any item that needed to run a digital interface with your computer needed to be run through a parallel port. The competition for space is why the machines were designed with so many features. With all the features on one machine, you only needed the one plug to use them all. This competition for limited slots was eased with the invention of USB, or the universal serial bus.
